Starbucks Roastery and Tasting Room
Coffee flights, chocolate pairings, whole bean coffee by the pound, any coffee making gear you could possibly imagine, and more await you in Seattle at the Starbucks Roastery and Tasting Room. This wonderful homage to coffee right in the heart of the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle takes everything you ever thought you knew about Starbucks and turns it all on its head.
Upon entering, you’re overwhelmed by the powerful scent of roasting coffee all around you. Beans are flying through equipment right before your eyes and you can get some of the freshest coffee you’ve ever encountered. But this Starbucks isn’t like the one [or many] around the corner from you. Sure, there are coffee drinks. But there is so much more, taking your coffee experience from a quick cup on your way to work to a magical one of a kind experience.
The coffees served at the Roastery are some of their rarest brews. The collaborations between tasters and master roasters to pull the best flavor from each bean. There is a true harmony happening here. You can smell even as you’re pouring the coffee, before you’ve even tasted it.
Coffee + Friendship
My visit there made my first day as a 27-year-old truly wonderful. We met up with fellow blogger, Asa of Lace and Pearls. Asa and I started our blogs at almost the exact same time. We constantly commented to each other that we simply needed to meet up if one or the other ended up in our cities. So when the call of Seattle rang, I knew I had to see her! We hit up one of her favorite brunch spots, The London Plane, before hopping in the car and zipping to the roastery.
You know those people who you meet and it feels as if you’ve known them forever? How you just hit it off instantly? That’s how I feel about Asa. It might be the blogging, it might be that she’s just a seriously awesome human being. Whatever the case, I know I’ve found a lifelong friend in her. And, heck, if anyone can tolerate me losing my mind over coffee, then they’re in it for the long haul. So here’s to friendship and delicious coffee!
Sitting down to taste
After wandering around and exploring all of the amazing coffee gear, chatting up master roasters, and just watching them at their work, we finally decided it was time to order some coffee. Their coffee flights offer a way to taste your way around the coffee regions of the world and enjoy some of the best beans Starbucks has to offer. Upgrade to pair chocolate tastings to the experience [something I absolutely did!] and settle in for the most wonderful coffee you will ever drink at Starbucks.
While most of the roasts we tried are no longer available, my absolute favorite from the bunch is! The East Timor Peaberry roast was easily my favorite with tantalizing citrus notes and a wonderful malty flavor that was brought out even further when paired with a little almond milk and a salted caramel chocolate. Yes, I did just coffee nerd all over you, dear reader. And I’m not even a little bit sorry about it.
Wait, there’s a coffee LIBRARY?!
The Roastery is also home to a coffee library which, one would think, would be the first place I would run to. And yet, somehow, I managed to miss the space entirely. But, trust, next time I’m in Seattle, whether it’s permanently or just for another vacation, I’ll be hosting some kind of coffee blogger related event there. Give the coffee obsessed librarian style blogger a COFFEE LIBRARY and she will make wonderful things happen.
The whole experience at the Starbucks Roastery and Tasting Room was something truly magical for a coffee nut like me. And having Asa as company made it even better. She’s a truly wonderful human being with the cutest blog. Definitely look her up!
Below I’m including some of my favorite coffee accessories right now. They may not be from Starbucks but, hey, a good cup of coffee is a good cup of coffee. Am I right? Enjoy the photos and the brews!
